The Best Part About 2019

Looking back on the past year and trying to sum it up it’s hard to know where to start.  2019 was full of so many incredible people who’s important moments we were able to capture and so many adventures, but hands down the best part about 2019 was welcoming our son into the world!

Say hello to Jasper Rexonald Wallace!

Here he is at 4 months old today, and when he was less than 1 day old in the hospital.

It’s so hard to believe how much this nugget has changed already!

While we found out about the incredible news in January, it wasn’t until after the 12 week mark that we could make the official announcement.  Of course we had to include film photography into it!

In May, Amanda and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary and babymoon in the same place we spent our honeymoon, Banff National Park.

Our friend Kaela of K&E Imaging and Shutter & Flash was so amazing to spend the day with us and do a maternity/anniversary session at some of our favourite spots in the park.  We absolutely love the way they came out!  Also huge thanks to our friends Jordanna from Lilies & Lace Beauty Co. and Mel from Makeup Mel for doing Amanda’s hair and makeup.

We can’t thank you guys enough for helping to make our anniversary session so special!

I couldn’t help but to get a few shots of Amanda myself!  I loved this behind the scenes shot that Kaela got of us.

Fast forward a few months it was time for us to head to the hospital!  I took these last photos of pregnant Amanda in front of our house the day we went to induce labor. Our first family photo!  Thanks so much to our neighbor Neely for getting this phone shot of us on that day.

There’s so much I could say about this amazing little nugget, but I think Amanda put it so incredibly well on his 4 month birthday:

“Jasper Rex is four months old today. This tiny person has transformed our lives in many wonderful ways. This photo captures so much of his personality already. He loves to look deeply at the world and soak it all in. He loves to watch people and shadows. He startles easily with noises and quick movements because he focuses so acutely on faces, shapes and sounds. He’s already teething and enduring like a champ. He loves people and smiles when he sees them but then bashfully turns to snuggle into his mama or papa’s arms. He has the tiniest case of baby fomo in the world because he loves people and discovering the world so much he can’t stand to be away. Even at such a young age, he seems always in deep thought or intense joy. He is curious, joyous, stubborn, willful, playful, and loving. His favorite toy is his wooden bird and elephant poppyseed play. He will lay and grab and chew and talk for hours if could stay awake. He loves to chew on his hands and talk while he’s chewing which is super adorable when you see him. He gets upset when he’s tired or can’t fit both his hands in his mouth. He will “talk” with you for hours too. He loves repeating sounds. And we can’t wait to watch him grow and change and hold “real” conversations soon!”

I simply can’t say enough about how incredible this woman is.  Amanda is the most amazing mom to Jasper and I am beyond lucky to get to have a family with her.

During her pregnancy and now with a new baby, Amanda’s had to step back from shooting with me.  I’m so thankful to my friends Noi Tran and Angelina Price for helping me out and second shooting this year!

Getting to become to a dad is already the greatest thing I have ever done.  It was absolutely the best part about 2019!
