I feel very lucky that I’ve gotten the chance to capture people in some beautiful landscapes that I love (for instance Banff). I will never get tired of photographing in the Rockies, but I also really want to highlight what an amazing elopement and destination wedding location North Georgia is. That’s what let me to put together this styled Cloudland Canyon Elopement shoot.
Cloudland Canyon State Park has been one of my favorite locations for years now. Only a 2 hour drive northwest of Atlanta, it has some of the most beautiful and unique views in the southeastern United States.
Just a short walk from the main parking area and you’re looking out this stunning landscape. In fall it’s full of all the colors you would hope for. In the summer it’s blanketed with a brilliant green that gives a beautiful contrast against the exposed rock and endless skies. There’s also a whole different world on the lush canyon floor, complete with two waterfalls and some of the best hiking around. The website Atlanta Trails has an excellent guide to the park and is totally worth reading if you’re planning a visit.
Now, on to the photos!
First, I need to go ahead and a say huge thank you to all the incredible people who made this Cloudland Canyon Elopement shoot happen!
Anik Keuller of the Anik Collective did an amazing job with the florals for this shoot.
Courtnee and Jon are a real life couple that I’ve gotten to know through the film photography community here in Atlanta. They’re both incredibly talented photographers – plus, Courtnee a brilliant tattoo artist. Also, they’re just awesome people and were so generous with their time to be a part of this shoot!
Definitely go check out their work: here, and here.
It ended up being the hottest day of the year so far when we went out to shoot, but these two were total troopers and were up for anything!
Courtnee’s dress and hair band were both proved by Bridal Sense in Sandy Springs, Georgia.
Jon provided most of his wardrobe himself. He really nailed the look I had in mind!
Can we talk about how stunning Courtnee looked? I mean this dress from L’amour by Calla Blanche could’ve been made just for her.
And of course, Taylor and Ashley of Violet Rose Artistry did an incredible job on the hair and makeup. I’ll always jump at the chance to work with those awesome ladies!
On the technical side of things, I used my Pentax 645n and Canon Eos 1V cameras loaded with a mix of Kodak Professional Portra 400, Portra 800, and Tri-x 400 films.
Film developing and scanning was provided by my friends at Dunwoody Photo.
The views from the rim of Cloudland Canyon are seriously breathtaking.
I would have gone home happy if we ended things right there, but I knew we needed to get inside the canyon!
It was time to make the hike down to the canyon floor.
This bench is right near the half way point and made for an awesome backdrop.
Once you make it down all of the stairs to the canyon floor, Cherokee Falls is just around the corner.
It’s not an easy hike, but it was so worth it to grab these last few photos!
One more time, here’s all of the amazing people who worked with me on this styled shoot.
